Located in the 1887 era restored jail, the San Jacinto County Museum features items related to the early settlers and history of East Texas and San Jacinto County. The jail was enlarged and modernized in 1911, when the hang-man’s device and new cells were installed. The downstairs area consists of the former receiving area/day room and jailer’s quarters. It was customary for the jailer’s wife to cook for the prisoners as well.
