The Jasper County Historical Museum tells the historic significance of the area and is housed on the courthouse square where the Hancock Drug Store once was. On display are weapons used in Texas Revolutionary period. One is the only Mexican weapon known to exist, an East India Pattern Brown Bess Musket, captured from the Battle of San Jacinto. The others are three battle sabers of two are believed to have been similar to the saber Sam Houston used at the Battle of San Jacinto. In addition, the life and law practice of Joe Tonahill, who defended Jack Ruby of JFK assassination fame, has been preserved with the showing of his old law office in the museum, complete with original courtroom sketches of the infamous trial.
